Steel distributors expect demand uptick for '14

DETROIT The owners of five distribution companies expect flat-rolled steel demand to grow between 1 and 5 percent across all end-use markets in 2014 compared with last year, they said during an AMM roundtable discussion Jan. 23 at the Association of Steel Distributors (ASDs) regional meeting in Detroit.
We have positive expectations due to backlogs at manufacturing customers, said Brian D. Robbins, president and chief executive officer of Midwest Materials Inc., Perry, Ohio, and ASD president-elect.....
