China sizes up threat of US wire rod dumping case

SHANGHAI — Chinese steel exporters are closely monitoring a potential trade case situation in the United States, which could see wire rod imported from the Asian country subject to an anti-dumping tax, market participants told AMM sister publication Steel First.

U.S. producers are said to be mulling filing an anti-dumping case against imports of Chinese wire rod, with sources in the United States previously noting a filing would likely come in the first quarter (, Oct. 22).

"This rumor has been circulating the market for a few months now," an export director at a mill in north China said. "There has been no real action yet, but we need to pay close attention to the situation, as the USA is one of our key export destinations."....
