Distributors’ buying will stay cautious

DETROIT — Caution will continue to be the byword for managing steel inventories in light of unpredictable price movements, according to service center executives.

"We all remember how pricing seemed to go up every month in 2008 and then everything crashed, with a loss on every transaction," said Mike Sawyer, vice president and co-owner of Universal Metals LLC, Toledo, Ohio, and treasurer of the Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) central region.....
