Antofagasta reports record rise in 2013 copper output

SINGAPORE Antofagasta Plcs copper output totaled a record 721,200 tonnes in 2013, due in part to strong results across all operations in the fourth quarter.
Diego Hernandez, chief executive officer of Antofagastas minerals division, described 2013 as a "challenging year," adding that the company faced "an increase in costs across a number of operations, as well as weaker commodity prices."
Copper production totaled 182,900 tonnes for the three months ended Dec. 31, up 4.9 percent from the previous quarter, the company said in a Jan. 29 earnings report.....
