NEW YORK — Sunil Y. Widge is retiring from Carpenter Technology Corp. after nearly 40 years with the specialty steel and alloy producer.

Widge, who joined Carpenter in 1976, will step down as senior vice president of strategic business development and governmental affairs at the company effective Feb. 1, he told AMM in an exclusive interview Jan. 31.

Widge is turning 65 later this year and said he “thought it was a good time to move on to other interests,” although he will remain at Wyomissing, Pa.-based Carpenter as a consultant and continue in his position on the board of the Specialty Steel Industry of North America.

“If I’m needed, I know I will always be there for Carpenter, and Carpenter will always be there for me,” Widge said.

Widge holds a doctorate in metallurgy from Lehigh University and has assumed various roles and committee memberships at the American Society of Metals, the Metallurgy Society, the Industrial Research Institute and the Special Materials Processing Consortium. ....
