Greenbrier to design new oil tank cars

LOS ANGELES Greenbrier Cos. will design a new generation of tank cars to meet expected new safety standards for moving oil and other hazardous freight while also making retrofits for "legacy" tank cars.
William A. Furman, chairman and chief executive officer of the Lake Oswego, Ore.-based rail car and barge builder, indicated in a statement that Greenbriers plans are in response to "high-profile derailments" that demonstrate the need for "updating the North American tank car fleet to the highest practical safety standards."....
