SSAB Americas sees strong sales in quarter

NEW YORK — SSAB Americas recorded strong sales in the fourth quarter due to improved pricing and demand, a trend that looks set to continue through early 2014.

The Lisle, Ill.-based steelmaker, a subsidiary of Stockholm-based SSAB AB, posted operating earnings of 181 million kronor ($27.8 million) for the three months ended Dec. 31, more than triple the 53 million kronor recorded in the third quarter and up 64.6 percent from 110 million kronor in the same year-earlier period.
