Glencore’s ferroalloys output jumps in 2013

LONDON Glencore Xstrata Plcs ferroalloys expansion plan brought a 32-percent increase in ferrochrome output and a nearly sixfold gain in manganese alloys production.
Baar, Switzerland-based Glencores ferrochrome production hit nearly 1.24 million tonnes in 2013 vs. 938,000 tonnes a year earlier.
The increase was due to higher smelter utilization rates despite production cuts implemented by all South African ferrochrome producers in 2013 under power buyback deals with state energy group Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd.....
