Oklahoma City shredders oppose fire code updates

PITTSBURGH — Oklahoma City officials have temporarily delayed updating its fire code at the request of two local auto shredder operations.

Representatives from Derichebourg Recycling USA and Standard Iron & Metal Co. said during a Feb. 11 public hearing that the proposed updating of the 2003 fire code would negatively impact their businesses. The Oklahoma City Council is looking to update the code in part to limit the noise of small explosions that can occur during the shredding process. ....
