China needs to raise its zinc concentrate output: analyst

DANA POINT, Calif. — China’s zinc mines need to produce an additional 400,000 tonnes from now until 2018 if they are to meet domestic demand growth, according to Chris Parker, an analyst at consultancy Wood Mackenzie Ltd.

"This is not an impossibility, although it’s going to be a stretch" to reach this additional concentrate tonnage, he said. "It suggests the ability of smelters to ramp up and overproduce is more limited today than it was in the previous decade."....
