Turkey still major source of US rebar imports

LONDON — Nearly two-thirds of rebar volumes scheduled to hit U.S. shores in January were from Turkey, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Enforcement and Compliance division.

More than 135,000 tonnes of rebar were due to arrive from Turkey in January—the most in over a year—and another 33,800 tonnes were expected to arrive in February, according to data through Feb. 26. Total U.S. rebar imports were put at more than 222,000 tonnes in January and 78,600 tonnes in February.

But even with such high volumes, analysts note that the U.S. market isn’t Turkey’s top target for rebar exports.....
