US steel imports poised for February climb

NEW YORK — U.S. steel imports look poised to hit new highs in February due to increased shipments of several major products, including cut-to-length plate and semifinished material.

Import license applications indicate that semifinished imports were on course to jump 24.1 percent in February vs. the previous month, due in part to some 107,572 tonnes coming from the United Kingdom compared with 73.5 tonnes in January, data updated March 4 by the U.S. Commerce Department’s Enforcement and Compliance....
