AK welcomes judgment in electrical steel trade case

NEW YORK — AK Steel Corp. hailed the Commerce Department’s affirmative ruling on subsidized imports of grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) from China, claiming it will "continue to vigorously defend" its ability to compete against foreign producers.

Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) calculated a preliminary countervailing duty rate of 49.15 percent on imports of all Chinese product, including mandatory respondent Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. (amm.com, March 5). As a result, Commerce "will instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to require cash deposits based on these preliminary rates," it said.....
