Aluminum alloy producers flummoxed by market

NEW YORK — Secondary aluminum alloy prices held steady March 17, with buyers and sellers on the fence about the overall direction of the market.

There are several reasons for the confusion, including a recent reduction in scrap purchasing by Chinese consumers—which could lead to a marked uptick in the supply of domestic scrap—and continued issues with trucking across much of the country, which has supported alloy prices over the past month.

A clearer direction for alloy prices will begin to emerge as these issues develop or are potentially resolved, sources told AMM.....
