Brass scrap prices hit by weak demand

NEW YORK — Prices for all grades of brass scrap moved lower March 19, with market participants saying weak export demand—namely from China—caused domestic supply to increase dramatically over the past two weeks.

The uptick in supply is largely due to a reduction in Chinese purchasing, which has been impacted by a recent devaluation of the Chinese yuan and stricter import standards in China, dubbed Operation Green Fence (amm.com, Dec. 24) and Earth Goddess—Phase III (amm.com, Oct. 16).....
