US gov’t seeks extradition of Ukraine exec

LOS ANGELES — The U.S. Justice Department is asking Austria to extradite a Ukrainian businessman whose company controls Ukraine’s only significant titanium producer, Zaporozhye Titanium & Magnesium Combine LLC (ZTMC), which plans a major expansion of the industry in that country.

Dmitry Firtash, the 48-year-old owner of Group DF Ltd., Kyiv, Ukraine, was released from Austrian custody March 21, the company confirmed on its website.

He had posted $174 million in bail and promised not to leave Austria while the extradition proceedings continue, media reports said. He was being held on alleged bribery and other charges.....
