Big River Steel wins air permit case vs. Nucor

NEW YORK — A judge in Arkansas ruled in favor of steel industry veteran John D. Correnti’s proposed Big River Steel LLC project concerning an air permit appeal filed by competitor Nucor Corp., a move that will push the $1.1-billion mill a step closer to construction.

The majority of complaints in an appeal filed by Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor have been denied, according to documents filed March 20 at the Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission. A commission spokeswoman told AMM that the decision must finally be passed by the full commission at a date in the near future.....
