Containerized scrap prices to Taiwan rise

NEW YORK — Doubts about where containerized ferrous scrap export prices to Taiwan were headed have been put to bed this week after exporters successfully negotiated increases.

Market participants said prices for an 80/20 mix of No. 1 and No. 2 heavy melting steel moved higher after Taiwan’s mills raised domestic scrap buying prices and announced an increase in rebar tags due to a weakening currency.

Taiwan’s rebar price increases have yet to materialize and consequently did not trigger a rush for scrap, sources said.....
