China leads in world stainless industry growth

NEW YORK — The global stainless steel industry is expected to grow 5 percent in 2014, with the North American market seen maintaining last year’s rate of 4 percent growth and the Chinese market growing 7 percent.

The industry has just come off a year in which, for the first time ever, China accounted for more than half of the world’s stainless steel production, Steel & Metals Market Research GmbH (SMR) managing director Markus Moll told attendees at the Metals Service Center Institute’s Specialty Metals Division Conference in Lost Pines, Texas.....
