Trade rules unfairly harm Turkey steel: Ekinci

BARCELONA, Spain — Turkish steel producers are being unfairly subjected to a host of non-tariff protectionist measures by other countries looking to support their own steel mills, according to Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association chairman Namik Ekinci.

He slammed countries that are implementing trade barriers that "harm the domestic market in the long run by preventing the trading of goods and services under free-trade conditions, thereby damaging international trade."

Turkish producers’ biggest obstructions are country registrations, which take a long time to obtain as the certification process is littered with obstacles, Ekinci said March 31 at the International Rebar Exporters and Producers Association meeting in Barcelona.....
