Alcoa expects construction activity to rise

CHICAGO — North American construction activity should improve with better weather, but the region’s packaging market needs to innovate if it expects to see gains, Alcoa Inc.’s top executive said.

The Pittsburgh-based aluminum producer continues to expect a gradual recovery in nonresidential construction business in North America despite a slowdown in order intake from the sector in the first quarter, Alcoa chairman and chief executive officer Klaus Kleinfeld said during a conference call with analysts.....
