SDI deferring planned 2d-qtr. outages

NEW YORK — Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) is deferring planned second-quarter outages at two flat-rolled facilities to take advantage of tightness in the domestic flat-rolled market, according to a top executive.

A planned spring maintenance outage at its Butler, Pa., plant and an outage to upgrade the Galvalume coating line at its Jeffersonville, Ind., facility will be deferred until the third quarter "so that we have the opportunity to be a bigger player in the marketplace because of some of the curtailments that are going on in the flat-rolled industry," Richard P. Teets Jr., SDI’s president and chief operating officer for steel, said during an earnings conference call.....
