Encore earnings climb in qtr. on improved wire margins

NEW YORK Encore Wire Corp.s net income jumped 69.7 percent year on year in the first quarter as the spread between copper wire selling prices and raw material costs improved.
The McKinney, Texas-based wire maker also reported a 9.1-percent increase in copper unit volumes, measured in pounds of copper contained in the wire sold, which offset a 6.5-percent drop in the average selling....
