Environmental laws to raise Chinese steel costs

SHANGHAI Amendments to Chinas environmental protection law that threaten tougher punishments for polluters has drawn mixed reactions from the countrys steelmakers.
Revisions to the law will allow the government to impose penalties dailyinstead of just onceif a company continues to pollute after receiving orders to cease, confiscate and shut down polluting facilities, and detain company executives for up to 15 days, Chinas National Peoples Congress said in a statement.....
