Cliffs eyes DRI pellet opportunity: Fedor

INDIANAPOLIS Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. sees a potential new market in low-silica pellets that could be used as a feedstock for direct-reduced iron (DRI) plants.
"We see a possible market going forward," Terry G. Fedor II, Cliffs executive vice president of U.S. iron ore, said during a press conference May 6 and subsequent interview on the sidelines of the Association of Iron and Steel Technologies AISTech conference in Indianapolis.
What Cliffs aims to market is a pellet that could be used as a feedstock for gas-based DRI facilities, which in turn would make material to be charged into an electric-arc furnace, Fedor said.....
