TUCSON, Ariz. Open-pit mining is less risky and more economical than underground mining, according to a Rio Tinto Plc executive.
Transportation and accessibility at the surface are also easier, with underground mining needing additional services, Rio Tinto copper cathode sales manager Thomas Metos said at the American Copper Councils Copper College meeting in Tucson.....
