NEW YORK — U.S. steel mill product imports appear to be on course to hit a new high in April, with sharp gains seen in the inflow of heavy structural shapes, cold-rolled sheet and line pipe.

Steel product import license applications topped 3.34 million tonnes last month, according to data compiled by the U.S. Commerce Department’s Enforcement and Compliance division, the highest monthly level in more than a year.....
