Imperial Metals net falls on low copper tags

NEW YORK — Canadian miner Imperial Metals Corp. reported a substantial decline in earnings in the first quarter due to lower metal prices despite higher shipments of copper and gold.

The London Metal Exchange cash copper contract averaged $3.19 per pound in the three months ended March 31, down 11.4 percent from $3.60 in the same period last year, leading the Vancouver, British Columbia-based company to post a 44.9-percent drop in net income to Canadian $5.86 million ($5.38 million).....
