Flat-rolled prices mixed but demand stays firm

NEW YORK Prices for flat-rolled steel products were mixed this past week despite overall demand that was said to be robust, which was backed by stronger distributor shipment data for April.
Plate prices rose on strong demand and extended lead times, while hot-rolled coil remained flat and cold-rolled tags dropped slightly in what sources said is a continuing tussle between mills pushing for higher prices on constrained supply and buyers running down inventories in hopes of softening tags as some of the integrated mills come back online (amm.com, May 15).....
