US, Canadian stainless steel shipments rise in April: MSCI

NEW YORK North American service center shipments of stainless steel saw further gains in April, according to the latest Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) data, indicating a market benefiting from increased demand that has led major domestic producers to raise base prices twice in the past three months.
Stainless steel shipments by U.S. distributors totaled 167,100 tons in April, up 4.1 percent from 160,500 tons the previous month and 7.9 percent higher than 154,800 tons in April last year. Year-to-date shipments of 638,600 tons were up 6.4 percent from 600,400 tons in the first four months of 2013.....
