Nickel market tight, premiums hold firm

NEW YORK — Strong demand from stainless steel and specialty alloy producers continues to drive tightness in the spot market for refined nickel units in North America, although the arrival of more material in recent weeks has helped maintain premiums, market participants told AMM.

AMM’s spot melting-grade nickel premiums held at 28 to 35 cents per pound this week and plating-grade premiums remained at 60 to 70 cents per pound amid prevailing tightness in the market for available flowable units. Trader and consumer sources reported most significant business within those ranges.....
