Industry said better suited to fight metal theft

NEW YORK — Best practices from metal organizations might be more effective at deterring metals theft than state and local regulations vs. scrapyards, one security company executive said.

"Many people outside the scrap industry don’t realize its value, and these regulations—while well intentioned—can be counterproductive and onerous if not implemented correctly," according to Jack DeMao, chief executive officer at Columbia, S.C.-based Electric Guard Dog LLC, which specializes in preventing metals theft.....
