Calif. shredders seek compromise on scrap bill

PITTSBURGH — The West Coast chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) is working with California legislators in hopes of reaching a compromise on a bill that would impact the state’s seven auto shredding facilities.

The state Senate recently voted 23-12 in favor of proposed legislation that would require waste from shredded automobiles to be regulated by the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC). The bill is now on the Assembly floor for consideration.....
