Greenbrier, Watco in rail car repair venture

LOS ANGELES — Greenbrier Cos. and Watco Cos. LLC will form a joint venture aimed at tapping growing demand for rail car repairs and retrofits.

The 50-50 joint venture, GBW Railcar Services LLC, looks to capitalize on what is expected to be an upcoming wave of retrofits spurred by recent accidents and derailments of tank cars carrying oil and hazardous chemicals.

GBW will have a combined annual revenue of $325 million and include 14 tank car repair shops—10 from Pittsburg, Kan.-based Watco and four from Greenbrier—out of a total of 38 operations.....
