Copper smelter in Java set for construction by year-end

SINGAPORE The construction of a 400,000-tonne-per-year copper smelter in East Java, Indonesia, is expected to begin by the end of the year.
The $2.2-billion project is being undertaken by Phoenix-based Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Newmont Mining Corp., state-owned PT Antam and Chinese investors. ....
