Ormet sale clouds future of Ohio mill

NEW YORK The United Steelworkers union is concerned that an aluminum smelting facility in Hannibal, Ohio, formerly operated by Ormet Corp. will be permanently shuttered, effectively eliminating hundreds of jobs in the area.
Niagara Worldwide LLC recently secured the right to purchase the assets of bankrupt Ormet for $25.25 million (amm.com, June 27).
"If it gets liquidated, the people that will hurt the most are those who work in the Ohio valley," Donald Blatt, USW District 1 rapid response coordinator, told AMM. "The community has lost a lot of manufacturing jobs recently because of various state and federal policies."....
