Schnitzer faces $100,000 penalty for faulty pumps

PITTSBURGH Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc. is facing a $100,000 administrative penalty after allegedly failing to minimize the impact of defective pumps that caused its stormwater system to malfunction.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management assessed the fine on Metals Recycling LLC, the companys Johnston, R.I., facility, for allegedly violating the states pollutant discharge elimination system.....
