SSAB Americas bullish on 2d half, logs profit

CHICAGO — SSAB Americas’ profits heated up in the second quarter due in part to price increases and strong demand from the automotive and service center sectors.

The Lisle, Ill.-based steel plate maker’s North American plants ran at full capacity utilization following an outage at its steel mill in Mobile, Ala., early in the quarter, parent company SSAB AB said in its earnings results July 23.

"We expect our North American operations to continue to develop positively during the second half of 2014, driven by an improved market and positive effects of previous price increases," Martin Lindqvist, president and chief executive officer of Stockholm-based SSAB, said.....
