Steel mills' winter pains spell gains for Nucor

CHICAGO Nucor Corp. expects to maintain through year-end market share that was gained in the first quarter, when other steelmakers struggled to maintain output amid an unusually harsh winter and delayed ore shipments.
The Charlotte, N.C.-based steelmaker at the time gave "preferential treatment" to customers who were "in a bind because of the situation of some of our competitors," Nucor chairman, president and chief executive officer John J. Ferriola said during an earnings conference call with analysts July 24.....
