Vale nickel output falls amid planned outage at Sudbury

NEW YORK — Vale SA reported lower nickel production in the second quarter due to decreased output at its Sudbury operations in Ontario, according to the miner’s quarterly production report.

Rio de Janeiro-based Vale produced 61,700 tonnes of nickel in the second quarter, down 8.6 percent from the first three months of the year and a 5.4-percent drop from a year earlier, "mainly reflecting the impact of planned maintenance work" at the company’s Sudbury facilities, it said July 24.....
