CHICAGO — AK Steel Corp. narrowed its net loss by 57.7 percent in the second quarter as increased sales outweighed the lingering impact of harsh winter weather, with the company upbeat of a better second half.

Contributing to the optimism on the second half of the year, the West Chester, Ohio-based steelmaker’s blast furnace in Ashland, Ky., is up and running after suffering an $18-million unplanned outage in the first quarter, it said in its quarterly earnings results July 29.....
