NEW YORK — Orbite Aluminae Inc.’s net loss widened in the second quarter compared with a year earlier as it moves toward completion of a new high-purity alumina facility in Cap-Chat, Quebec.

The Montreal-based company expects the facility to enter commercial production in the first quarter of 2015 (amm.com, July 14).

Orbite, which produces alumina from aluminous clay rather than traditional bauxite, posted a net loss of Canadian $4.3 million ($3.9 million) for the three months ended June 30, a 26.3-percent increase from a net loss of C$3.4 million in the same period last year, according to the company’s earnings results.
