Aircraft ‘upcycle’ lifts Spirit out of red ink

LOS ANGELES — A commercial aircraft "upcycle" spurred by strong demand for large transports, as well as operational improvements, helped Spirit AeroSystems Inc. return to profitability in the second quarter.

The Wichita, Kan.-based first-tier structural subcontractor posted net income of $143.4 million for the three months ended July 3, in contrast to a $209.4-million net loss in the same period last year, on revenue that jumped 18.6 percent to more than $1.8 billion.....
