Nanko suit alleges shipping violations by Alcoa

NEW YORK — Alcoa Inc. is being sued by a shipping company that claims the aluminum producer failed to properly recognize its right to handle certain bauxite exports from Guinea.

Nanko Shipping USA filed the lawsuit against Alcoa and Alcoa World Alumina LLC in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia alleging "common law breach of contract to a third-party beneficiary and discrimination on basis of race."

Alcoa has not been served "with any legal papers relating to a lawsuit by Nanko Shipping," a company spokeswoman told AMM. "However, we can confirm that we do not have, and never have had, a contractual relationship with Nanko Shipping. Further, Alcoa does not engage in unlawful discrimination of any type in its business activities," she said.....
