Exide to lay off 64 workers at its Calif. facility

NEW YORK Exide Technologies Ltd. will lay off 64 employees at its Vernon, Calif., facility, including three salaried workers and 61 hourly employees who are members of United Steelworkers union Local No. 675, the company said Aug. 14.
The lead battery recycler is postponing layoffs for 73 other employees at Vernon, who will work on "the installation of ... new equipment" and "develop enhanced operating, maintenance and environmental procedures to support a successful restart of the Vernon facility," the company said.....
