China, US boost global steel output

NEW YORK — Global crude steel output rose 1.7 percent last month to more than 136.8 million tonnes, led by Asia, North America and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

China drove Asian output, with the country logging a 1.5-percent increase to 68.32 million tonnes in July from 67.3 million tonnes in the same month last year. South Korean production jumped 6.2 percent to 5.9 million tonnes,....
