USS lifts coating extras; others seen following

CHICAGO Domestic steelmakers are continuing their push to raise zinc coating extras in an effort to offset higher costs.
Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel Corp. is increasing coating-weight extras for hot-dipped galvanized and galvannealed products effective Oct. 1, it said in an Aug. 19 letter to customers.
"The cost to procure zinc for our hot-dipped galvanized and galvannealed products has steadily increased as the year has progressed," U.S. Steel said in the letter. "Additionally, the incremental premiums to deliver zinc to our North American facilities where we coat steel have also increased each of the last two years, an increase that we have not attempted to pass though."....
