Mercedes swaps aluminum pistons for steel

NEW YORK German automaker Mercedes-Benz will replace aluminum pistons with high-tech steel pistons in one of its diesel passenger vehicles starting in September.
The advanced high-strength steel pistons will reduce fuel consumption by around 3 percent and lower carbon dioxide and pollutant emissions compared with their aluminum counterparts, according to Stuttgart, Germany-based Mercedes-Benz.....
