Power provider applauds Noranda rate ruling

NEW YORK The power provider for Noranda Aluminum Holding Corp.s smelter in New Madrid, Mo., praised a ruling that rejected the companys request for a lower power rate.
The Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) denied the request last week (amm.com, Aug. 20).
"It would have set Norandas rate well below our cost to serve them," Warren Wood, vice president of external affairs and communications for Ameren Missouri, part of St. Louis-based Ameren Corp., told AMM. "It was the right decision based on an extensive record of evidence. We remain interested in finding a path forward for Noranda and all of our other customers." ....
