US auto sales rose 2.5 percent in June, and halfway through the year now stand at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 16.7 million, according to figures from Motorintelligence.com.
Through May, some market observers had estimated that annualized sales would reach a rate of 17.3 million.
However, sales through the first six months of 2016 still are running slightly ahead 1.5 percent of this point in 2015, a year which saw more cars sold than any other in U.S. history.
